In Survey Pro 4.0 we have revised the method of handling control points, to provide you with more flexibility. You now have access to control points saved to a layer, which you can edit during a job, as well as having a redesigned Job wizard to assist with selecting control points when a Job is created.

The critical difference in the new handling of control points is that now the points are imported into the current job. Previously, a single control file was used. The control file was a separate Job file that contained the points that you wanted to use as control. The currently open Job would refer to the control file any time information about a control point was needed. The new method assigns the control points to the CONTROL layer within the current Job. When the point is drawn on the map, it is drawn with a special symbol to indicate that it is a control point. The new system can work essentially the same as the old system, but has the added flexibility of easily adding more points from different files and to manage your control points more effectively.

To add control points to a Job, go to the Import Control function on the File menu. Select the file and import the points. Survey Pro even has new point overwrite/rename functions that make it easy to manage your point names.

File handling - on running Survey Pro 4.0 for the first time, the software sets the control file name and variables from the old control file name in the registry. When you begin a new job, you will set the control file values in the new job wizard, as you create a new job and import control points. To start the program for an existing job, there is a prompt to load the control file.

The Job wizard has been modified to include the option of loading control files.

Page one on the wizard allows you to select to use a control file (image above right), and then to browse the local directory to select a control file (image below right).
