Tripod Data Systems Introduces SOLO Forest GIS Mapping Software
Includes features and functions specific to forestry applications;
allows foresters to generate custom grids, verify their work while still in the field
CORVALLIS, Ore.—February 1, 2007—Tripod Data Systems (TDS) today introduced SOLO Forest™ GIS mapping software. SOLO Forest is designed specifically for forestry applications, and includes the features, functions and terminology foresters commonly use in the field.
"While foresters have been using GIS software for some time, they have had to navigate through complex menus and toolbars to access the functions they need," said Brooks McKee, TDS product manager. "SOLO Forest is a field GIS package that incorporates the functions and map features used in forestry in a convenient toolbar. It's also easy for users to customize the menus and toolbars for the functions they use most frequently."
SOLO Forest is a GIS mapping program that allows foresters to generate custom grids in the field, adjusting for topography or other field conditions that are unknown in the office. Another exclusive feature is that it automatically tracks the plot points a forester has visited, changing the point symbol once foresters have collected all the data for that point. This makes it easy for foresters to determine if they've completed their field data collection while they're still in the field.
SOLO Forest runs on Windows-compatible handheld computers, including Windows Mobile 5.0. It interacts with popular third-party forest inventory software, and it supports commonly used forestry instrumentation such as GPS, laser range finders and tree calipers. In addition to all the file formats in SOLO Field software, SOLO Forest supports JPEG 2000 files, and the office version, SOLO Office - Forest Edition, supports the MrSID® file format.
SOLO Forest and SOLO Office - Forest Edition software are available now from TDS-authorized dealers and value-added resellers. The manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) for SOLO Forest is $1,000 and $500 for SOLO Office - Forest Edition. Special bundle prices are available when purchased with the TDS Recon® and Ranger™ rugged handheld computers. Users can find complete specifications, along with a directory of dealers and resellers at http://www.tdsway.com/forester.
