Tripod Data Systems Offers Desktop Cradle Accessory for Recon Handheld Computer
Users can recharge their Recons while they upload/download files or synch with other devices
CORVALLIS, Ore.—September 21, 2006—Tripod Data Systems (TDS) today announced a new accessory for its TDS Recon® rugged handheld computer. The new desktop cradle accessory combines a charging station with a USB port, allowing users to recharge the Recon while transferring files to a desktop or laptop computer or synch with other electronic devices. Available from authorized TDS dealers, the desktop cradle accessory is priced at US$179 MSRP.
"When users return from the field, the new desktop cradle accessory gives them a convenient way to upload or download files while recharging the Recon's battery," said Dale Kyle, rugged handhelds product manager. "In addition, to further improve productivity, the cradle is designed so the Recon can still be used while it's charging."
The Recon handheld computer is designed for all-day operation in extreme outdoor and industrial environments. It meets MIL-STD-810F military standards for drops, vibration and temperature extremes. It also has an IP67 rating, meaning it's impervious to water and dust.
The Recon's rugged construction makes it ideal for land surveying, construction and other outdoor applications. It weighs just 17 ounces, and its rounded edges provide a comfortable grip. Large, widely spaced buttons are easy to use, and its reflective color TFT display is bright and clear in sunlight.
The Recon runs Windows Mobile® 5.0 and offers optional integrated Bluetooth and 802.11g wireless. The Recon comes with a 200 or 400 MHz Intel XScale processor, 64 MB of SDRAM and up to 256 MB of internal nonvolatile Flash storage. It also features two CompactFlash slots (except the Recon NX), plus a standard 9-pin serial port and a high-speed USB port for connecting to a PC. The standard PowerBoot Module™ features a 15-hour rechargeable NiMH battery.
