Tripod Data Systems Names Tough Corp. as Master Distributor for
TDS Handheld Computers in Australia, New Zealand and New Guinea

CORVALLIS, Ore.—August 23, 2006—Tripod Data Systems (TDS) today announced that Tough Corp. of Sydney, Australia has been named the company’s master distributor in Australia, New Zealand and New Guinea for its popular TDS Recon® and TDS RangerTM rugged handhelds for mobile computing applications.

The Recon and Ranger offer field-proven mobile computing capabilities in extreme temperatures, driving rain, dusty job sites and other harsh environments. Tough will provide sales, service and support for TDS rugged handhelds throughout Australia, New Zealand and New Guinea.

“Tough is well known and respected by mobile professionals in the Asia Pacific region, and we expect their customers will find the Recon and Ranger are just what they need to work more productively in the field,” said TDS president Bill Martin.

TDS has expanded its global distributor network to extend its sales and support efforts internationally to meet increasing demand for its products.. Handheld Europe AB of Gothenburg, Sweden, is the master distributor for Europe, and Santiago & Cintra Technologies based in Miami, Florida, serves TDS customers in Latin America.

About Recon and Ranger

TDS rugged handheld computers—the Recon and the Ranger—meet the stringent MIL-STD-810F military standard for drops, vibration and temperature extremes. Both also come with an IP67 rating, meaning they're impervious to water and dust.

The Recon and Ranger feature Windows Mobile software, allowing users to run thousands of familiar applications, as well as industry-specific programs. Both feature integrated Bluetooth and 802.11b wireless, a sunlight-readable color TFT touchscreen and two CompactFlash slots for adding peripheral devices. The Ranger also offers a Secure Digital (SD) slot.

The Recon comes with a 200 or 400 MHz Intel XScale processor, 64 MB of SDRAM and 128 or 256 MB of nonvolatile Flash storage. Its standard PowerBoot ModuleTM features a 15-hour rechargeable NiMH battery; with the optional AA PowerBoot ModuleTM, the Recon can run for eight hours on two AA alkaline batteries.

The Ranger comes with a 312 or 520 MHz Intel XScale processor, 64 or 128 MB of SDRAM and 256 or 512 MB of nonvolatile Flash storage. The Ranger also features a 30-hour Li-Ion battery and an ergonomic keypad with separate navigation, alpha and numeric keys.
