Tripod Data Systems Offers New Accessories to Extend Capabilities of Recon Handheld Computer
Recon now supports CompactFlash digital cameras, bar code scanners and SD cards

CORVALLIS, Ore.—January 11, 2005—Tripod Data Systems™ (TDS), a wholly owned subsidiary of Trimble (NASDAQ:TRMB), announced today extended capabilities for the rugged TDS Recon™ handheld computer via a line of new accessories. These capabilities give workers in public safety, field service, utility, military and other outdoor applications the ability to use the TDS Recon with CompactFlash cameras, bar code scanners and SD memory cards.

"With these new accessories, the Recon now has additional ways to increase the productivity of mobile workers," said Bill Martin, TDS president. "In addition to collecting and managing field data, these new accessories let users take pictures or scan bar codes, without compromising ruggedness."

The new Optical CF-Cap™ features a clear window to allow the Recon to work with selected CompactFlash cameras and bar code scanners. The cap is completely sealed to protect CompactFlash accessories from dust, dirt, water and impacts from accidental drops. TDS will bundle the Optical CF-Cap with additional accessories:

  • The Optical CF-Cap bundled with LifeView's FlyCAM camera lets users capture still photos and live video.
  • The Optical CF-Cap bundled with Socket Communications' In-Hand Scan Card-Imager allows users to scan a variety of bar codes including linear (1-D), stacked bar codes, stacked matrix (2-D) and postal bar codes. It can also capture VGA images.

TDS will also offer a CF-to-SD adapter that allows users to transfer data between the Recon and SD memory cards. In addition to the convenience of using SD memory cards, this adapter allows easy access to the memory card slot while other large CompactFlash devices such as GPS and wireless cards are being used in the Recon's second slot.

The new Recon accessories and bundles are available through Mobile Planet (www.mobileplanet.com) and Tripod Data Systems (www.tdsway.com).

List prices for the new accessories are as follows:
