CORVALLIS, Ore. and LARAMIE, Wyo.—June 1, 2004—In-Situ, Inc. and Tripod Data Systems (TDS) announced today that the TDS ReconTM, an ultra-rugged handheld computer that meets stringent military durability standards, has been chosen by In-Situ as its premium data collector and private-labeled as the RuggedReaderTM.
"We conducted extensive research and comparison studies and determined that the TDS Recon is the best combination of price and performance available today," said Bob Blythe, president and CEO of In-Situ. "When used with the multi-parameter TROLL 9000 and miniTROLL monitoring systems, it's the most capable reader on the market."
"The rugged nature of the Recon—and now the RuggedReader—is ideal for the water testing environment, and the battery life is perfect for remote projects," explained TDS president Bill Martin. "The Recon weighs just 17 ounces, and it exceeds military specifications for drop, vibration and both high- and low-temperature operation."
The Recon runs Microsoft Windows MobileTM 2003 software for Pocket PCs, offering users the most popular handheld applications—including Pocket versions of Word, Excel, Outlook and Internet Explorer. Its standard PowerBoot ModuleTM features a 15-hour rechargeable NiMH battery.
The In-Situ RuggedReader features real-time data viewing and logging, along with graph or meter display, with its Pocket-Situ software. Other features include:
- Sunlight-optimized display for easy reading in any condition
- USB or RS-232 output for flexible PC connections and automatic synchronization
- Automatic barometric compensation when used with a vented TROLL 9000
- 64 MB of internal memory for logging tens of thousands of data points
- Audio feedback to assure accuracy of input
- 24/7 technical support for worry-free ownership
