Corvallis, Ore.—March 09, 2004—Tripod Data Systems (TDS), a wholly owned subsidiary of Trimble (NASDAQ:TRMB), announced today a special promotion to give away a TDS Recon™ rugged handheld computer. The giveaway, sponsored in part by Microsoft, celebrates the one-year anniversary of the Recon's release. The Recon runs Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 software for Pocket PCs and offers rugged performance in extreme environments.
To enter to win, participants must register online at www.tdsway.com/win. Registration is open from March 1 to April 30.
The Recon is designed for all-day operation in extreme outdoor and industrial environments. It meets MIL-STD-810F military standards for drops, vibration and temperature extremes. It also has an IP67 rating, meaning it's impervious to water and dust.
The Recon's rugged construction makes it ideal for land surveying, mapping, forestry, utilities, law enforcement, military and other outdoor applications. It weighs just 17 ounces, and its rounded edges provide a comfortable grip. Its large, widely spaced buttons are easy to use, and its reflective color TFT display is bright and clear in sunlight.
"For anyone who needs a handheld data collector that holds up in the real world, the only thing better than a Recon is a free Recon," said Dale Kyle, handheld products manager.
The Recon's Windows Mobile software brings the most popular handheld applications to users working in extreme temperatures, driving rain, dusty job sites and other harsh environments.
"There are groups of professionals who need to collect and look up data in a variety of unpleasant outdoor conditions, from public safety personnel working in the rain to surveyors working in extremely hot or cold temperatures," said Doug Dedo, marketing manager for the Mobile Devices Division at Microsoft Corp. "With the Recon, TDS brings Windows Mobile capabilities to professionals working in even the harshest outdoor environments."
The Recon to be given away has a retail value of $1,499.
