Corvallis, Ore.—February 24, 2004—Tripod Data Systems (TDS), a wholly owned subsidiary of Trimble (Nasdaq:TRMB), announced today it is offering an extended warranty option for the popular TDS RangerTM and TDS ReconTM handheld computers. This option can extend the standard TDS product warranty for up to two years.
The extended warranty covers product function failures, offering repairs at authorized TDS service centers. It can be purchased any time during the current warranty period, for a maximum extension of two years.
"The Ranger and Recon are intended for years of use in the field," said Dale Kyle, TDS rugged handhelds product manager. "We want our customers to have the peace of mind that comes with an extended warranty period."
The suggested retail price for a one-year extended warranty for the Ranger is $269.95. A one-year extended warranty for the Recon is $169.95. Extended warranties are available from TDS or TDS authorized dealers.
The TDS Ranger set the standard as the first truly rugged Windows CE handheld computer. It features a 206 MHz Intel StrongARM processor and offers up to 512 MB of Flash memory. It can handle extreme temperatures from 140 °F to -13 °F (60 to -25 C), it meets tough military standards for drops and vibration, and it has an IP67 rating-meaning it's impervious to dust and water immersion.
The TDS Recon offers rugged performance with a lightweight, compact design. It runs Windows Mobile software for Pocket PC on its XScale processor and has two CompactFlash slots for adding peripheral devices. The Recon meets the both MIL-STD-810F and IP67 ruggedness standards.
Tripod Data Systems (TDS) develops hardware and software for mobile computing applications. TDS produces rugged handheld computers for extreme outdoor and industrial environments, software for land surveying and construction applications, and GIS systems for field data collection and automation.
