Corvallis, Ore.—June 10, 2001—Tripod Data Systems (TDS) today announced the immediate availability of SOLO CE 2.4. This latest version release of TDS' GIS/Mapping software for Windows CE and Pocket PC represents significant upgrades to existing mapping capabilities, additional platform and GPS support and new customization options for application specific projects.

"SOLO has always provided comprehensive GPS and Laser support. Now our users will also enjoy robust GIS options including in-field editing of basemap attributes, enhanced project controls, redlining and superior image and basemap handling and display," said Chaur-Fong Chen, GIS Division Manager. "SOLO remains a turnkey field mapping solution while offering user-defined configuration capabilities for customers with either complex or simple applications."

New Features Extend Capabilities with:

  • Basemap Options: Users can edit basemap attributes in the field, display area and length of basemap features, generate a grid overlaying a selected basemap feature and search for and navigate to basemap features.
  • Redlining: Users can make quick notes and drawings of potential problems for Q&A purposes without making actual changes to the basemap.
  • Configuration Options: Users or managers can customize the display of the SOLO CE menus and toolbar buttons to design the look and feel of the user interface based on specific project requirements.
  • GPS Receiver Support: Added support of the Trimble GPS Pathfinder Pocket, PCMCIA and Compact Flash GPS receivers and TDS WAASP.
  • Data Collector Support: Added support for the Juniper Systems Allegro and the DAP lines of field data collectors. Also added support for the HPC 2000 operating system.
  • Laser Rangefinder Interface: SOLO CE now supports a continuous laser logging mode, remote triggering of the laser and an interval logging mode for the laser rangefinder.
