Corvallis, OR—July 21, 2000—Tripod Data Systems (TDS) today announced its release of Survey Pro for Windows CE® version 1.1. Survey Pro is the leading data collection software widely available on numerous handheld platforms, including the HP 48GX, Itronix® Husky® handhelds and the new RangerTM. Version 1.1 offers an all-new feature called real time auto linework; functions from the DOS version of Survey Pro such as alignment editor, offset stake to alignment and DTM stakeout; and numerous instrument interface enhancements. Current Survey Pro for Windows CE users can upgrade to the new version for free.
"This latest update is exciting because we are providing our customers with promised functions that they can use every day to improve their productivity," said Dave Scribner, president of TDS. "We are committed to continue adding functionality to our Windows CE product line, ensuring that TDS software provides exactly the kind of features that our customers demand."
The new feature, real time auto linework, uses a simple set of rules to automatically draw lines and curves on the Survey Pro map. The lines are saved as polylines in the TDS .job file and can be edited in the field using the polyline editor. The lines can be viewed at any time using the map view function in Survey Pro. "Real time auto linework allows TDS customers to see the lines as they draw and know they are correct. You no longer have to wait to get back in the office to see if your linework is accurate," said TDS Product Manager Eric Hall. "Real time auto linework is much easier to use than old methods. There are no codes to memorize and type!"
The new alignment editor is similar to the alignment editor in the DOS Survey Pro version. It's used to enter a horizontal alignment with lines, arcs and spirals, and in a separate tab, to enter the vertical alignment using grades and vertical curves. The alignment can then be staked using the offset stake to alignment function. The alignments are stored in the TDS .job file and can be accessed easily using a user assigned name.
The offset stake to alignment function allows the user to stake any stored alignment in the .job file. The alignments can be simple or complex, including horizontal and vertical if needed. Any offset can be staked at any station along the alignment. With the graphical interface of Survey Pro for Windows CE, it's a snap to set up and use the function.
DTM stakeout allows the user to load a digital terrain model surface and stake anywhere on that surface to get ground-to-surface linear cut-and-fill values. The DTM surface can come from TDS ForeSight, an AutoCAD DXF file with 3D face elements, or a converted DXF file using TDS Survey Link. This function is more efficient to use than point staking for getting cut/fill values for a large area. More information on the latest features of Survey Pro for Windows CE can be found at the TDS web site at www.tdsway.com.
