Corvallis, OR—October 11, 1999—Tripod Data Systems, Inc. (TDS) introduces
version 2.0 of SOLO CE, a real-time, stand-alone GPS/GIS mapping software.
Used with DGPS or a laser rangefinder, SOLO is a turnkey field mapping
system that provides sub-meter accuracy in real-time. Working with
a Coast Guard beacon or satellite correction service, SOLO will provide
accurate GPS positions throughout world.
Enhancements featured in the latest release of SOLO CE include:
- The ability to display multi-layered basemaps in the field. SOLO CE allows you
to view your existing ESRI Shapefiles or MapInfo MIF files in the
field. Simply copy your existing data, in its original format, to
your data collector. You can access the database information associated
with these files for reference. Your current GPS position can be
plotted against the existing data in real time. You may then use
SOLO CE to create additional features, complete with full attribution.
- The ability to export data compatible with most GIS packages directly from the
data collector. Supported formats include ESRI Shapefiles, AutoCAD
DXF, TDS .CR5 and ASCII. No office software is necessary to create
useable files.
- The ability to configure selected GPS/Beacon/Satellite DGPS receivers. SOLO
CE allows you to specify the NMEA data format, satellite elevation
mask and beacon frequency. Supported models include the Starlink
Invicta series, CSI GBX Pro series and others.
SOLO CE brings the latest H/PC technology into your GPS/GIS data collection applications.
Windows CE 2.0 features an easy-to-use graphical interface with many
familiar features that you may already be using on your Windows-based
office PCs. Taking full advantage of this graphical interface, SOLO
CE is versatile, powerful and easy to use.
SOLO CE has been successfully tested on Casio, Hewlett/Packard, Phillips, Sharp and
other Windows CE handheld computers. It requires 4MB RAM, a PCMCIA
card slot or compact flash card slot, an RS-232 serial port, and a
color or monochrome display.
SOLO CE utilizes the NMEA data output by most DGPS receivers. Designed primarily for
use with Real-time DGPS systems, SOLO CE can also store raw GPS data,
or be used without GPS for inventory and inspections.
SOLO CE supports both data collection and navigation functions using Lat/Lon, SPC,
UTM or custom grid coordinates. You can build several Feature Lists
for use in tagging your positions with GIS data. Because you are collecting
accurate, corrected coordinates, you can perform calculations in the
field, like checking the acreage on a plot of land or checking to
see how far a hydrant is from a road intersection. In addition, you
may enter offset information for recording the location of positions
that cannot be occupied. Distance and direction information may be
entered manually or through a laser Rangefinder.
