Corvallis,
OR - Tripod Data Systems, Inc., (TDS) introduces SOLO, a real-time, stand-alone GPS mapping system for Windows
CE handheld computers. TDS SOLO can also be used with the HP 200LX and Husky FS/2 and FS3 handheld computers.
SOLO is a rugged, turn-key field mapping system that provides 0-3 meter GPS accuracy in real time. Working with
a companion satellite correction service or the Coast Guard Beacon system, SOLO provides accurate GPS positions
throughout the continental United States, as well as most of Canada and Mexico. Satellite and beacon coverage is
also available in many parts of the world.
The integrated SOLO antenna receives both GPS signals and satellite correction signals (or Coast Guard Beacon
signals), eliminating the need for radios, base stations and post processing. SOLO's antenna, receiver, data
collector and optional laser rangefinder all mount on a lightweight composite rangepole—no backpack is needed.
Total system weight is as little as 11 pounds. Backpack and utility belt configurations are also available.
The SOLO field software supports both data collection and navigation functions. You can build a Feature List on
your PC and download it to your field data recorder for use in tagging your positions with GIS data. Of course, you
can also enter GIS information on the fly using the full alphanumeric keyboard. The graphical navigation functions
allow you to return to any point in your database quickly and easily.
Because you collect accurate, corrected coordinates, you can also perform calculations in the field, for example,
you can check the acreage on a plot of land or check how far a hydrant is from a road intersection. In addition, you
may enter offset information manually or using a laser rangefinder to record the location of positions you cannot
occupy.
The SOLO system also includes SOLO Office, a Microsoft Windows-based software package for preparing field projects
and for translating collected data into popular GIS formats. SOLO Office supports ESRI, MapInfo, AutoCAD and ASCII file
formats. SOLO Office also allows you to view and print your GPS projects.
Tripod Data Systems, Inc., was founded in 1987 and is recognized as the leading developer of data collection
software for surveyors. TDS is dedicated to bringing to market the most innovative, easy-to-use programs for field
professionals who collect and process geometric and spatial data.
