Trademark Use Policy

Tripod Data Systems (TDS) creates innovative handheld computing hardware and software products for a variety of different markets. The brands that TDS uses to promote these products are recognized by customers world-wide, which makes them extremely valuable to TDS. Proper use of our trademarks helps maintain and increase the value of our brands.

The following trademark guidelines are provided to facilitate consistent, proper use of TDS trademarks.

TDS Trademarks
TDS maintains many trademarks for its products and services. Click here to view the list.
Some examples of our trademarks are the word “TDS,” the three-triangle logo, and the words “Tripod Data Systems.” Most, if not all, of our product names are trademarks.

Proper Use
You may use TDS trademarks to refer to TDS products or services, as long as such references are appropriate and consistent with these trademark guidelines.

A TDS trademark should not be used in a manner that would suggest that the trademark is owned by a person other than TDS. A TDS trademark must not be used in a way that makes a customer think that TDS sponsors or manufactures another party’s product, or that another party is the sponsor or manufacturer of a TDS product.

  1. Corporate logo and trade dress.
The corporate logo consists of the name “TDS” and the three-triangle design. You may not use the corporate logo without prior, written permission from TDS. Where the corporate logo appears on TDS products, packaging or marketing literature provided to you, you may not remove, cover or alter the corporate logo.

TDS’ trade dress is the look and feel of our business. This style includes the format, colors, templates, packaging, labels, signs, posters or other promotional materials created by TDS. You may not copy or imitate TDS’ trade dress, web site, packaging or advertising materials.

    • If you are licensed to use the TDS logo, you may use it only pursuant to our corporate logo guidelines.
    • You may not remove, cover or alter the TDS logo or trademarks where they appear on any products, packaging or other materials provided to you by TDS.

  2. Products, domains, business names, slogans
TDS reserves all ownership rights to our trademarks, including all rights to the TDS name and logo. Therefore:

    • You may not register top-level domain names with our trademarks or trade names in them or use subdomains with our trademarks in them. This prohibition includes the trademark “TDS.”

    • You may not use, incorporate or combine any of our trademarks into your product names, business names, slogans or trade names.

    • You may not combine any TDS trademark with your trademarks or the trademark of any third party.

    • You may not use or register, or apply to register any trademark that is the same as, or confusingly similar to any TDS trademark.

    • You may not use our trademarks in your slogans, or adopt or use our slogans, in whole or in part, as your own. You may not use our slogans in a manner that confuses or misleads customers.

  3. Web site Links
TDS reserves all ownership rights to our trademarks, including all rights to the TDS name and logo. Therefore:

    • You may link to our web site at www.tdsway.com, from your web site, provided that you notify the web site user that they are being re-directed to the TDS web site.
    • Examples of acceptable language are:
"Click here to visit the TDS web site."
"Clicking this link will re-direct you to the TDS web site."

  4. Use our trademarks as adjectives.

    • Our trademarks may never be used as possessives. The following examples show correct and incorrect usage:

Correct use: The Recon® handheld computers are wonderful.
Incorrect use: The Recon's new features are wonderful.

    • You may not abbreviate, shorten or use a “nickname” for any TDS trademark.

Correct use: The GeoExplorer® CE series handheld computer.
Incorrect use: The GeoCE handheld computer.

    • Every time you use a TDS trademark in the text of a document, you must follow it with the proper descriptor. If you are unsure of the proper descriptor, please consult TDS marketing communications personnel. Some examples of trademarks with the proper descriptors are:

The Recon® series of handheld computers.

  5. Attribution of ownership.

    • If you use TDS trademarks on your web site or refer to them in your printed marketing materials or advertising of TDS products, you must provide a notice in your document that tells the reader who owns the trademark. Attribution is usually provided in the credit line of a printed document directly following a copyright notice. An example of proper attribution is:

“Ranger is a trademark of Tripod Data Systems .”

    • You do not have to give attribution to TDS’ ownership of a trademark if the trademark is used in a press release.

  6. Merchandise & Advertising Materials
    • You may not use the TDS trademarks on any of your promotional materials, including but not limited to merchandise such as t-shirts, bags, pens, keychains, golf balls or other items.

    • You must obtain authorization from TDS prior to using our trademarks in any advertising materials, regardless of the medium.

    • You may not print our trademarks or logos on your business stationary or business cards.
