The new TDS Nomad packs even more functionality into the most powerful and full-featured rugged handheld computer available. Start with an 806 MHz processor, a long-life battery and integrated wireless capabilities like GPS, 802.11g, and Bluetooth.

Then select an optional Nomad configuration that includes an integrated laser bar code scanner and color digital camera.

The Nomad also features a high-resolution, sunlight-visible VGA display that shows graphics and maps in crisp detail. And it's fully rugged and just as tough as our other handhelds which means the Nomad offers a lower Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) than consumer-grade handhelds.

High performance
Every Nomad comes with an 806 MHz Marvell PXA320 XScale processor, 128 MB RAM and a hot-swappable rechargeable lithium-ion battery pack to keep going strong all day. Recharging time is significantly reduced with the use of lithium-ion batteries.

Windows Mobile
The Nomad also includes the latest Windows Mobile 6 software, so it runs all the applications you use most, including a wide range of third-party software for industry-specific applications.

Water Proof
The Nomad is completely sealed to keep running in the wettest situations. Testing has shown that you can submerge the Nomad one meter deep in water for 30 minutes.

Wireless communication
The Nomad has built-in Bluetooth and optional 802.11g wireless communication capabilities.

Expansion
A CompactFlash (CF) Type II slot and a Secure Digital (SDIO) slot add to the versatility of your Nomad. Use memory cards to increase data storage for larger jobs or use other accessory cards for multiple applications. (CF slot not available with optional installed laser bar code scanner or color digital camera.)

Nomad Specialty Accessories
The Nomad features broadband wireless modem capabilities via the Sprint cellular data network in the U.S. The broadband modem from Franklin Wireless transmits data and email plus provides Internet access. Other Nomad accessories include caps, battery modules and boots.

White Paper: Total Cost of Ownership
Should you use initial cost or Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) when deciding whether to purchase rugged vs. consumer-grade handheld computers? This white paper addresses the issue.

AA Battery Module
The optional AA Battery Module uses three AA batteries (alkaline or lithium) to keep your Nomad running for up to 4 hours. It's perfect as a backup or in areas where recharging isn't possible.

BackCountry Navigator
Nomads with built-in GPS include a free, 21-day trial version of BackCountry Navigator. This program allows you to download topographical maps and aerial photos for free. You can also download and import waypoints, view your location on a moving map and use it for geocaching. Learn more about BackCountry Navigator.

Linux option
TDS partner SDG Systems offers the Nomad with Linux as the operating system. If you have a Linux-based application, you now have a viable option for running it on the TDS Nomad. Learn more at the SDG Systems Web site.
